How To Care For Your Luxury Hair Extensions
How To Care For Your Luxury Hair Extensions
Whether you have finally taken the plunge into the world of wearing hair extensions, or you’ve been wearing extensions for literally forever, you already know how important it is to keep them in the best shape possible so that they look great for the long term - which can be anywhere from 6-12 months.
Your daily and weekly hair routines need to be prioritized. The longer the hair, the more time it will take, but it’s very important to be consistent and give it the time and effort it deserves. Make it part of your self-care routine so that it’s relaxing and enjoyable, and feels less like a chore.
Your glamorous, luxury hair extensions are an investment into your image and your confidence and it’s important to maintain them so that it doesn’t start to feel like its not worth it - because it really is worth it.
Care & Maintenance of your Luxury Hair Extensions
Daily
Some things to do daily are brushing, and wrapping your hair when you sleep.
Weekly
Weekly - 2-3 times per week (or as needed) washing and conditioning your hair, and of course brushing and detangling.
Styling your hair only has to be as often as you wash it. You will notice that your hair extensions hold a style for much longer than your natural hair. You may need a daily refresh, or fluff up, but overall you’re not going to need to use a ton of hair styling products either.
Brushing your Luxury Hair Extensions
There is a way to brush your hair from roots to ends without pulling too hard on the extensions, and you’ll also want to use a brush that has wider teeth/bristles.(retail link would work here). Even though you want to brush from roots to ends - you will actually start detangling from the ends and gradually work your way up to the roots. It’s important to do this to avoid matting, which can be an issue that you would possibly need help to resolve.
Satin Accessories
An often forgotten part of the routine is your pillowcase. You could start using silk or satin pillowcases which helps to reduce friction, and therefore reducing the amount of tangling of the hair.
Also when you’re sleeping either wrapping your hair up (wrapping it around your head and secured with a headband), sleeping with a satin bonnet, or tying your hair loosely up with a satin scrunchie would help to make sure the hair doesn’t get tangled while you’re sleeping. You could also do a loose braid. The goal here is to keep the hair from tangling and then having to brush it harshly to get the tangles out.
Adding Moisture to Your Luxury Hair Extensions
Your moisturizing masks and leave-in detanglers are also very important, especially if you do a lot of heat styling. Usually the length of luxury extensions tends to be worn quite long, so the ends really need to be moisturized with the right products to reduce brittleness and breakage.
When your extensions are maintained properly, it also helps to keep your own natural hair healthy and strong underneath.
Hair Extension Education
Hair extensions were getting a bad wrap for awhile because people thought that hair extensions would damage your natural hair, and I think they did initially. That was likely due to poor education, poor technique, and not the best quality overall. Over the last 20+ years, the world of hair extensions has really developed into a high quality service, truly achieving luxury status, when done with the right products and techniques.

The quality of hair and the modern methods of installation can guarantee almost zero damage to your natural hair, especially if the home care is done right too.
I hope this helps to take some of the apprehension away from trying extensions, because they can truly make such a huge difference for those that are not happy with the quality and density of their own hair. Don't forget to pass this on to you lovely, loyal extension clients to help ensure that they have the best possible experience with their luxury hair extensions.
